The calcium, serum test is a blood test used to measure the level of calcium in the blood. Calcium plays a vital role in maintaining bone strength, muscle function, nerve signaling, and heart rhythm.

Most of the body’s calcium is stored in bones, while a small but important portion circulates in the blood. This level is tightly regulated by hormones such as Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) and Vitamin D.

Abnormal calcium levels may indicate underlying conditions such as hypercalcemia or hypocalcemia, which can affect multiple organ systems. Serum calcium testing is an important part of metabolic and bone health assessment, as well as evaluation of endocrine and kidney disorders.
