This test is commonly recommended for patients who show symptoms of nerve damage or have medical conditions that reduce fat absorption.
You may need the test if you have:
- Frequent muscle cramps
- Tingling or burning sensations
- Difficulty walking or balancing
- Weak immune system
- Slow reflexes
- Chronic diarrhea or gastrointestinal disorders
- Liver or gallbladder disease
- Unexplained vision problems
High-risk groups include:
- Children with poor nutrition
- Individuals with chronic liver disease
- People with inflammatory bowel disease
- Individuals following very low-fat diets
- Patients with cystic fibrosis
- Premature infants
